It started at Lexington & Concord 

after Red Coats sallied forth from Boston 

to seize Patriot powder.

The British failed 

and barely made it back to Boston, 

but

the “shot heard around the world” 

began an 8-year fight.

Then, the Green Mountain Boys seized Ticonderoga

and Howe bloodied his Red Coats at Bunker Hill. 

Congress formed the Continental Army 

and entrusted it to Washington.

The Virginian joined it at Boston

where the smallpox-ravaged militia besieged Howe. 

As he struggled to build an Army, 

he sent Montgomery and Arnold to seize Canada. 

After Howe withdrew to Canada, 

Washington moved to NYC

and then to Brooklyn Heights 

to stop the returning Howe. 

Trapped and nearly destroyed, 

the chastened general withdrew

to Long Island, Kip’s Bay, Pelham and White Plains. 

Then, he crossed the Hudson and 

the war continued.
