As Honor Guard Commander, I am welcoming General Clayman, our newly arrived Assistant Division Commander, to the 1st Cavalry Division at Camp Howze, Korea in 1961. General Clayman was a veteran combat commander in Europe during World War II and became a veteran paratroop commander after the war. He was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Master Parachutist Badge.
General Clayman joined the division from XVIII Airborne Corps at Ft. Bragg, NC where he was serving as Chief of Staff.
Later in his tour, General Clayman would provide me crucial support as the Headquarters & Headquarters Company Commander to deal with troubling personnel problems and valuable tactical advice on the deployment of my troops to defend Camp Howze.
One of the Army's superb leaders.
